Consulting & research at the nexus of environment, agriculture, and sustainability

Hi, I’m Greg

Gregory Horner has worked in the environmental field for 22 years, and at the intersection of environment, agriculture, and sustainability for 19 years. As an independent consultant he works with foundations, nonprofits, mission-aligned companies, and individual donors, providing them with strategy development, research, impact assessment, and program implementation.  Greg is the lead author of a recently released series of profiles of public land managers who use regenerative grazing as a tool to achieve their conservation goals.

Greg is also the senior program officer at the Cedar Tree Foundation in Boston, where he has worked since 2004. His recent work includes the design and implementation of a $15 million funding initiative focused on the intersection of climate change, soil health, and regenerative grazing. He manages a varied portfolio of grants including those addressing indigenous leaders, urban agriculture, climate change, environmental justice, and more.

Greg is a Middlebury College graduate and he earned a Master’s degree in Natural Resources Policy and Behavior from the University of Michigan’s School of Environment & Sustainability, as well as a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from Boston University. Greg lives on the North Shore of Massachusetts with his wife and two girls and rescue dog Bella. He’s an avid gardener, cyclist, skier, and paddler.

“I worked with Greg on the creation of a new program at the sunrise project. He was very insightful and had deep experience standing up new funding programs that we found very valuable. In particular, I found his insights into program structure, design and engagement with donors to make our approach much stronger than had he not been involved. He’s also a very friendly guy and easy to work with. Would definitely recommend him for future work”

– Justin Guay
Director of Global Climate Strategy @ Sunrise Project

“I have had the fortunate opportunity to work with Greg in many capacities, as colleagues working together through FORA, Funders for Regenerative Agriculture, as well as consultants working together on various client projects. Greg is organized, a strategic thinker, and brings great energy to any team I have worked with him on- all skills that make him a great teammate and problem solver. Greg pushes the group when needed to ask deeper questions and dig into the details, as well as moves tasks forward to keep the team and deadlines on track. It’s been my pleasure to collaborate with him and hope to continue to do so on many projects moving forward.”
